Rooted In Love
Ephesians 3:17–19 (WEB)
“that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; to the end that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be strengthened to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and height and depth, and to know Christ’s love which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
Last night, my daughter said something that stayed with me.
With all of the lessons about roots lately, she wondered if maybe part of what God has been doing is helping me recognize the roots that no longer belong—and replacing them with better ones.
Roots of fear.
Negative thinking.
Old wounds.
Performance-based religion.
Ways of thinking that made God feel farther away instead of drawing me closer to Him.
And in their place:
Healing.
Renewed thinking.
Grace.
Love.
A deeper trust in God.
That made me realize something.
Deep roots are important—but so is what we are rooted in.
Paul prayed that we would be rooted and grounded in love and come to know the love of Christ more deeply.
Maybe spiritual growth isn’t only about becoming stronger.
Sometimes it is allowing God to show us what has been growing beneath the surface—and trusting Him enough to let something healthier grow there instead.
Not fear.
Not condemnation.
Not the belief that I have to earn His love.
His grace.
His truth.
His love.
Maybe the deeper the roots grow, the more we discover what was always meant to nourish them.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Show me anything growing in me that keeps me from knowing You as You truly are.
Renew my mind, heal what needs healing, and root my life more deeply in Your truth, grace, and love.
Help me become more like You from the roots up.
